Trash Collection & Recycling Schedule

Effective, January 1, 2017, the Borough of Swissvale will be handling all trash collection for Chalfant Borough.

Trash will now be collected on Friday mornings for the exception of the holidays listed below.   On these holiday weeks, trash collection will take place on Saturday and not Friday.

Per borough ordinance, please do not put your trash cans on the curb more than 24 hours in advance, and remove them within 24 hours of pick up.

Residents are reminded that Chalfant Borough trash will now be collected on Friday morning beginning at approximately 6:00 A.M.

Due to holidays throughout the year, the following dates will result in Swissvale Borough’s Department of Public Works collecting trash on Saturday instead of Friday:

Memorial Day Week:  Friday, June 4, 2021 to be collected on Saturday, June 5, 2021

Labor Day Week:  Friday, September 10, 2021 to be collected on Saturday, September 11, 2021

Thanksgiving Week:  Friday, November 26, 2021 to be collected on Saturday, November 27, 2021

Christmas Week: Friday, December 24, 2021

New Year’s Eve: Friday, December 31, 2021

Recycling Information:

Chalfant Borough has “single stream” recycling bins in the Public Safety Building Driveway located off Rossmore which can accommodate glass, aluminum, plastic bottles, paperboard, and non-corrugated cardboard.

Newspapers, junk mail, catalogs, magazines, and office paper can be placed in the large green Abitibi bin.

Recyclable cans, plastic and glass should be clean and paperboard and non-corrugated cardboard should be compacted to make more room in bins.

Recyclables can be placed into the collection bins loose or in paper bags.

Plastic bags, general trash or food waste are not accepted in the Abitibi paper recycler or the recycling bins.
